Friends’ Clubs have provided and will provide members with virtual experiences to help take us to someplace away from the pandemic.
The Photo Club has met virtually via Zoom every other week with club participation doubling with the last meeting. We are able to see each other and share images that we have on our devices. Members are sent email suggestions for things to do and share. In the next meeting we shall be suggesting learning something new about the equipment we own. So many features go unused and are fun to experiment with. For example, there is a time lapse photo capability that allows one to see a fungus “bloom” when water is given to it.
The Riverhead Photo Club (RPC) is sponsored by the Friends of the Riverhead Free Library (Friends) and is a member of the Photographic Federation of Long Island (PFLI). It meets the second and fourth Thursday of every month in the Library Craft Room and is opened to all ages and levels of expertise who are interested in the artistic, technical and social aspects of the hobby. Members are encouraged to join the Friends of the Library.
RPC shutterbugs are friendly and willing to ask and answer questions in an informal and open atmosphere. Meeting agendas include showing images based on a theme or assignment, having a presentation chosen by the members who give input to the activities committee, or having a guest judge come to offer constructive critiques of work presented in digital or printed format. Entry in monthly PFLI competitions is encouraged to allow feedback on technical and artistic aspects of the craft.
RPC has the unique opportunity to support and participate in the long running Photographic Exhibition and Competition Event (PEACE) that is sponsored and funded by the Friends of Riverhead Library. The PEACEvent is a natural extension of our work during the year and a public way of sharing the club’s photographic talents and compete for the prizes offered.
New members are always welcome.
